How rankings work
Listings on city pages appear in editorial order. The order comes from a score between 0 and 100 calculated automatically from the data on each listing. The weights below are the ones used in this build.
Criteria and weights
- Confirmed relevance to the core service (30): the business has confirmed services in this directory's service list.
- Completeness of verified information (20): phone, website, address, description, hours and service areas on file, with sources.
- Independently sourced reputation (15): counted only where a rating comes from a source whose terms allow reuse, and shown with its source and date. Most listings have none, and that is not held against them beyond this one criterion.
- Verified credentials (20): license or registration status checked against the licensing authority.
- Geographic relevance (10): located in the city, or serving it.
- Niche evidence (5): extra details that help comparison, such as services listed on the business's own site.
What is never a ranking input
Payment, sponsorship, premium profiles and whether an owner has claimed a listing are not inputs. Sponsored cards sit in a separate labeled block above the editorial list, and a sponsored business also appears in the editorial list at its earned position.
"Best" and "Top"
We use these words only next to a link to this page. A high score means the listing is well documented. It is not a guarantee of quality, price or availability. Always confirm licensing and ask for references before hiring.
